About The WeFunk Playlist Project
I first began listening to WeFunk a few years ago, around 2000. It was the first time that I had heard a good mix show with old school hip hop and funk all blended together. If you're like "WHAT?! The first time?!", yeah, you're just gonna have to understand Denver radio. I've since moved out to Los Angeles, and truthfully, their radio isn't much better. Thank God for the Internet, eh? I DJ as a side hobby, and listening to WeFunk has given me a much greater appreciation of the music I play, and I swear I learn something everytime I listen. So WeFunk has given me a lot, and all gratis as well.
So thats what got me first listening to WeFunk. When the shows were first being played over the Internet, it was pure freestyle, they didn't even record the tracks they played for the playlists. While listening then, I often wanted to know who had originally played some beat that Public Enemy had sampled, or where Dre got that sample for Gangsta Gangsta. Some of the songs though I knew. So I figured that there were plenty of people out there who knew the songs I didn't. With that realization the WeFunk Playlist Project was born.
I want to create a playlist for each show they have in their archive that does not yet have one. With all the listeners WeFunk has around the world, it is a very do-able thing. It has been very cool to receive emails and hits from people across the globe. It really shows the potential of what can be done if we pull together. You can contribute if you want, just review the lists we've already compiled and check for errors and omissions. Some playlists will have snippets that you can click on and listen to. These are for tracks that I could not identify. If you know the name and/or artist for any of those tracks, please contribute them to the project! All of us funkheads are in this together, so of course anybody who helps me out on this will get all credit due.
